Jolene the Sunbird will be 30 this year. In June, to be exact. The door sticker says it was built in Lordstown, Ohio in “ 6/1990.” I wish I knew the exact day, but GM wants me to fork over $50.00 to obtain that information from their historical archives.
Pretty impressive that she’s amassed only 58,000 miles in 30 years. And 2,000 of those have been in the last year or so with me.
For her 30th birthday, she’s getting another detail, some window visors (period correct ‘90s accessories), and a new oxygen sensor.
And, she is coming home to live at my house rather than in my friend’s garage. We are getting a shed-type garage building installed in our backyard that will allow for more storage and will hold the car. Yay!

My baby is 33 this year. :)
Still upset Pontiac is gone. My first car was a 1982 J2 000 (Sunbird). Yours is really sharp. Long live the Pontiacs!

Thank you, I’m very happy with them and they really look good on the car.
Here’s a closer look - I custom made the center caps so they look more “stock”.

Fleet, from youngest to oldest:
2007 Ford Focus (I really need to sell this): 13 years old.
1996 VW Golf: 5/95 build date . 24 years old.
1994 Saturn SC2: 5/94 build date. 26 years old.
1986 VW Cabriolet. 34 years old.
1981 VW Rabbit. 39 years old.
Average age of my fleet: 27.2 years old. After the Focus moves, that number will go up to 30.75. I feel it may be relevant to mention that I’m only 23. And also an idiot for owning five cars.

My 1502 was manufactured on 5/2/1975 and delivered on 5/5/1975 to Belgium.
44 years old.
BMW has an email address for their archive/records service. If you send them a VIN/Chassis Number they’ll give you all of that info. Which is awesome because I needed it when I imported the car. I took delivery a year ago on Saturday!

My car turns 54 this year, but it’s only been daily driven for ~30 of those years. (some doofus kept it as a garage queen for a couple decades) Does that count?

I know my Volvo is 37 this year! Still looks...reasonably okay for a car that was willingly exposed to salt in SoCal . I’ll get it sorted this year. I also said that last year, but I mean it this time!

Hmm, so my two vehicles combined are....7 years old, and 6 or those years are on one of them. I wish I could add to the fleet to age it a little bit.

I see yours also has the raised rear hood “mod”! 90% sure mine is due to a bad hinge or something though.
![]() 01/02/2020 at 11:10 |
|
It’s from shutting it with a tool underneath (that’s how I made it happen on my last 240, this one came pre-bent). It does bend the hinge. A new one hypothetically fixes it but they’re like 100$ if you can’t find one in the boneyard.
